Considering Microneedling? A Practical Consultation Checklist

A good microneedling consultation begins with the concern you want to address, not a promise of perfect skin. Write down what bothers you, how long it has been present, and what you have already tried. This gives your provider a much better starting point than choosing a treatment because it is popular.

Ask whether microneedling matches your concern

The American Academy of Dermatology describes microneedling as an option for concerns including certain scars, uneven tone, and skin texture. Suitability depends on the person and the treatment plan. Ask what improvement is realistic for your concern and whether another approach would be more appropriate.

Discuss your skin and medical history

Tell your provider about active breakouts, infections, slow healing, keloid history, medications, and recent procedures. The AAD notes that some health and skin conditions make microneedling unsuitable. Do not assume a treatment is appropriate because a friend with a similar concern had it.

Plan the calendar as carefully as the treatment

Ask how your skin may look and feel afterward, how long you should allow before an important event, and when you can return to your usual skincare and activities. Recovery advice depends on the procedure. Get written instructions and a contact number for concerns after the visit.

Know what is included

Ask for the treatment name, area, price, and proposed number of visits. If an additional product or procedure is suggested, ask what it adds, what evidence supports it, and whether it changes the risks or aftercare. You should be able to distinguish the core appointment from optional additions.

Build a plan you can maintain

Talk about home care, sun protection, and how progress will be reviewed. A series should have a purpose and a reassessment point. Ask how the team will decide whether to continue, adjust, or stop. Photographs can help track change when taken consistently and with your consent.

Where to find it at NPOC

Look under The Glow Collection | Facials & Peels, then select your location in IntakeQ. If you are still choosing between a facial, peel, and microneedling, start with a skin consultation. Availability and the appropriate treatment will depend on your individual assessment.

General educational information. Your clinician will advise on suitability, risks, and an individual treatment plan.
